Bob Dylan Honored as MusiCares Person of the Year

Grammy weekend kicked off on Friday night with Bob Dylan being honored as the 2015 MusiCares Person of the Year and a tribute that included performances by Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Jack White, Beck and Tom Jones, among others.

Although Dylan did not perform, his acceptance speech was much discussed in the following days.

Dylan thanked Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Cash for their influence, along with the Byrds, Sonny & Cher and the Turtles for recording some of his tunes and making them hits. He also singled out his “detractors”. Visit Rolling Stone for a complete transcript of the speech.
