The Doobie Brothers have added 23 additional shows to their previously announced 50th Anniversary tour with former frontman Michael McDonald – nearly doubling their run. This tour marks the first time in nearly 25 years that McDonald will head out on the road with his fellow Doobies.
The majority of the new shows will be interspersed among the previously announced dates with four others extending the tour by one week. The Doobie Brothers also revealed that the Dirty Dozen Brass Band will serve as the opening act for the entire tour.
“Next year our tour will include Tom [Johnston], John [McFee] and myself, along with Michael McDonald,” Patrick Simmons said in a press release. “The fans will have a chance to hear all our hits, as well as deep cuts and new material. I know these will be very special performances.”
See below for a complete list of tour dates. Note: new dates are in bold.
The news of the band’s reunion comes on the heels of The Doobie Brothers’ first-ever Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination. Nominees were announced last month and the Class of 2020 inductees will be revealed in January.
Fans can vote daily for up to five nominees in the Klipsch Audio Fan Vote here.
“I wish we had been in a long time ago,” Johnston told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Our band has definitely been around long enough, made enough noise hit-wise, given a lot of people a lot of pleasure and is still out doing it. I don’t know what else would be required. I think those are the requirements.”
In order to qualify for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, an artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior.
