Joan Jett and the Blackhearts recently revealed a brand new single “Fresh Start” – their first new music release since the 2013 album Unvarnished. With its blistering guitars and Jett’s signature unapologetic snarl the song is a fierce new companion to the upcoming documentary Bad Reputation.
The new doc, due out September 28th takes the audience on a wild ride through the life and career of the Joan Jett. Known by many as the ‘Godmother of Punk’ and The ‘Queen of Rock and Roll’, Jett blasted into the “boys-club” music scene and defiantly paved the way for female rock acts during a time that was much more hostile towards women.
Bad Reputation chronicles the ups and downs of Jett’s prolific career – her time with the Runaways, forming her band, the Blackhearts and the pervasive pushback she’s faced as a female artist. “It’s really important to tell people that their dreams aren’t just dreams,” Jett said in a recent interview. “If I listened to everybody who told me I couldn’t do it, then I wouldn’t be doing it.”
The film, which hits theaters this week, includes insightful archival footage and dozens of interviews with friends and musicians such as Dave Grohl, Pete Townshend, Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, Billie Joe Armstrong, Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus and Nikki Haley.
