Columbia Records/Legacy Recording have announced that on May 18th they will be releasing Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 2, 1987-1996, a limited edition, numbered box set comprised of remastered versions of five albums recorded during that time frame.
The new collection will include four studio albums – Tunnel of Love, Human Touch, Lucky Town and The Ghost of Tom Joad – as well as a special 12” of the 1988 EP Chimes of Freedom, Springsteen’s 1993 2-LP MTV Plugged special and the first-ever vinyl release of the 1996 Blood Brothers EP.
Highly acclaimed engineer, Bob Ludwig and The Boss’s longtime engineer, Toby Scott have helmed the project – transferring the audio from the original analogue master tapes using the Plangent Process playback system (a process which is known for its ability to correct pitch errors and other magnetic tape distortions). To further maximize audio quality, both Tunnel of Love and Human Touch have been expanded across 2-LPs.
This will be the first time that the long out-of-print LPs will be available on vinyl in their remastered form.
The original artwork and packaging have been reproduced for this release and it will be accompanied by a 60 page book which features rarely seen photos, memorabilia and original press clippings from the era.
Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol.2, 1987-1996 is a follow up to the 2014 release Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 1, 1973-1984 which featured newly remastered editions of the first seven studio albums by Springsteen.
