Rock Remembrances

November 21, 2017 – David Cassidy, lead singer and guitarist of the Partridge Family, dies of liver failure.  He was 67.  Cassidy became a teen idol in 1970 after The Partridge Family series ran on TV and used his Partridge Family fame to launch a worldwide solo career, becoming more famous in the UK and Australia than he was in the U.S.  At the end of his life, he publicly proclaimed he had dementia, but later admitted all of his health problems had stemmed from his alcoholism.

November 21, 1995 – Peter Grant, legendary manager of Led Zeppelin, dies from a heart attack.  He was 60. Known as being one of the shrewdest and most ruthless managers in rock history, Grant was applauded for changing the way artists were treated financially.  He allegedly secured 90% of concert gate money for Led Zeppelin’s American tour and intimidated record store owners who dealt in bootlegs. Jimmy Page says, “Peter had changed the dynamic that existed between bands, managers and promoters. He was a superb, canny manager.” The former wrestler also worked as a film extra and bodyguard. During the early 60’s Grant worked as a tour manager for Bo Diddley, The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and The Animals.
