Ray Manzarek, Founding Member of The Doors, Dies at 74

memoriumRay Manzarek, keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, died Monday at the age of 74 after a long battle with cancer.

Manzarek was born Raymond Daniel Manczarek Jr. on February 12, 1939 in Chicago’s South Side. In 1962, he attended film school at the University of California in Los Angeles, where he met Jim Morrison. Together, they founded the Doors, going on to sell tens of millions of albums and becoming on of the most prolific bands of the psychedelic era.

Ray Manzarek is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son Pablo; daughter-in-law Sharmin; and three grandchildren.
