Lou Reed – solo artist, vocalist and guitarist for the Velvet Underground, and rock legend – has died at the age of 71.
Peter Noble, Reed’s publicist, confirmed the star’s death but has not released any details as of Sunday evening.
“The world has lost a fine songwriter and poet. I’ve lost my ‘school-yard buddy,’ ” Velvet Underground violist/keyboardist John Cale tweeted.
“We have lost a true visionary and creative leader, and his groundbreaking work will forever hold its rightful place in music history,” said Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy.
