Bruce Springsteen Confirms That A New Album Is On The Way

He also hints at upcoming tour plans.

The Boss has said it’s time to go “back to my day job.”

After more than a year of performing his highly acclaimed one-man show Springsteen on Broadway, (which that has been recorded for a Netflix concert film to be aired on December 16th – mark it in your calendar!) Bruce Springsteen has revealed that he has a new album in the can.

Speaking to the UK’s The Sunday Times, Springsteen described his new record, saying: “For lack of a better word, it’s a singer-songwriter album – more of a solo record.” This album would his first new music release since 2014’s ‘High Hopes’.

Springsteen also hinted at upcoming tour plans with his longtime collaborators The E Street Band. Though he didn’t reveal any specific details, he did say that it should be underway in the next few months. However, some of the E Street Band members aren’t so sure.

E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren tweeted out the statement, “Only the Boss knows,” and guitarist Steven Van Zandt added “We say the same things over and over and over and people choose not to listen. Once again-There are no plans for E Street Touring in 2019 right now. Could that change at any moment? Yes. We will try and get an official statement. Maybe that would help. Maybe not! @nilslofgren.”

Van Zandt instead suggested that Springsteen misspoke and that “he most likely meant 2020,” and Lofgren added that “I know nothing. But if it’s a go, I’m in.”

In the meantime, fans can anticipate the release of the Springsteen on Broadway soundtrack, due out December 14th via Columbia Records. Based on Springsteen’s worldwide best-selling autobiography ‘Born to Run,’ Springsteen on Broadway is a unique evening with the music legend – just him, a guitar, a piano and his very personal stories.

On the Springsteen On Broadway soundtrack album each story appears as its own track, labelled as an “introduction” to the song it precedes. The audio for Springsteen on Broadway was mixed by the legendary Bob Clearmountain and mastered by the acclaimed Bob Ludwig. The soundtrack album will be available on 4 LPs or 2 CDs as well as a digital download and on streaming services.
