John Fogerty is helping to usher out President Donald Trump with his new song and video “Weeping in the Promised Land”. The politically-charged track marks the former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman’s first new song since 2018. You can hear it now in the player below.

The somber lyrics for “Weeping in the Promised Land” touch on recent social issues such as the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor as well as President Trump’s continued downplaying of the coronavirus pandemic. Its instrumentation is gospel-inspired featuring a church bells intro, a simple piano track and a gospel choir providing backing vocals.

Fogerty released the new song as Donald Trump continues his refusal to accept the results of November’s presidential election.

“It’s kind of like being a rock star in a band and then the band breaks up,” Fogerty told Rolling Stone. “I used to stand in front of 30,000 or 40,000 people and they were all cheering for me. I know what that is. I understand the emotion he’s feeling. I’m trying not to sound like a basher — more like trying to understand the situation. I think he enjoys the rallies very much.”

Fogerty previously slapped the Trump campaign with a cease-and-desist order following their use of CCR’s “Fortunate Son” at the president’s rallies.

“Weeping in the Promised Land” is available on digital and streaming services including Amazon Music here.
