James Taylor to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

james-taylor-before-this-worldJames Taylor is among the recipients of the 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom, it has been announced.

Other music recipients of the nation’s highest civilian honor include Barbara Streisand, Gloria Estefan, composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, music producer Emilio Estefan, and conductor and teacher Itzhak Perlman.

The ceremony will take place at the White House on November 24th. The Medal of Freedom honors those who have made significant contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other endeavors.

Also receiving the honors later this month are director Steven Spielberg, veterans advocate Bonnie Carroll, former Rep. Lee Hamilton, NASA mathematician Katherine G. Johnson, baseball legend Willie Mays, Senator Barbara Mikulski, and EPA Administrator William Ruckelshaus. Yogi Berra, civil rights leader Minoru Yasui, first African-American woman in Congress Shirley Chisholm and Native rights activist Billy Frank, Jr. will receive the Medal of Freedom posthumously.

Past recipients include B.B. King, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra.
