The New Orleans Jazz Fest has a been canceled for the second year in a row as Covid-19 cases in the state of Louisiana rise. Organizers of the festival announced the cancelation Monday, saying in a statement “We now look forward to next spring, when we will present the Festival during its traditional timeframe.”

The festival had been moved from its usual spring schedule to October of 2021 after being completely cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The Rolling Stones were set to perform at the festival on October 13th. The band had originally been scheduled to perform at the 2019 event but that performance was postoponed due to Mick Jagger’s health problems.

Other acts scheduled to perform in 2021 included Dead & Company, Stevie Nicks, Jimmy Buffett, The Beach Boys, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Elvis Costello, Boz Scaggs, Tower of Power and many more.

Ticket holders will have the opportunity to request a refund or hold on to their tickets for 2022.

According to the Johns Hopkins University vaccine tracker, just 37.5% of Louisiana’s population has been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus at the time of this writing. Daily new cases in the state are now far exceeding daily case counts during any of the previous three waves of the pandemic.

Last week, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts announced that he would not be joining the band on their rescheduled No Filter tour as he is currently recovering from an undisclosed medical procedure.
