Riding high on the box office success of the Queen/Freddie Mercury movie Bohemian Rhapsody – now the highest grossing music biopic ever – Queen has revealed that they will be teaming up with frequent collaborator Adam Lambert for 2019 North American tour.
Queen + Adam Lambert announced that the 23-date trek, called Rhapsody, will feature a brand-new production that a press release calls “as experimental and rule-defying as the hit-packed Queen back catalog.” The tour will launch on July 10th, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia and conclude on August 23rd in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Always known as a band for pushing the boundaries, Queen’s co-founding members, spoke enthusiastically about the upcoming excursion. “This is a great opportunity,” explained Brian May. “Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever, and got us our best notices ever. So we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious! Watch out, America! ”
“We are ready for America and raring to get back in the saddle,”said Roger Taylor.
Lambert, who first performed with Queen during the 2009 season finale of American Idol, added, “We have been designing a brand new visual spectacle that will reframe these iconic songs and we are excited to unveil it!” The band’s lineup will also include keyboardist Spike Edney, bassist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Tyler Warren.
The Rhapsody tour will feature set design from Ric Lipson of Stufish Entertainment Architects, lighting design from Rob Sinclair and video content from Sam Pattinson of Treatment Studio.
When Freddie Mercury sang “The Show Must Go On” all those years ago, even he couldn’t have guessed that the public’s love for Queen would remain as strong as ever 2018. You can’t help thinking he would be overjoyed.
