Red Hot Chili Peppers will release a new album with recently returned guitarist John Frusciante. The confirmation came from drummer Chad Smith in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“We’re psyched…” Smith told the publication. “For now, we’ll mostly be concentrating on new songs and writing a new record. We’re all real excited to make new music.”

Smith declined to give any further details; “I was given strict orders for this interview: DON’T TALK ABOUT THE BAND,” he said. But the 58-year-old did go on to clarify that the band is indeed in the process of working on a new record.

In the meantime, the Chili Peppers have a number of festival appearances on the books for 2020. The dates mark the first live shows since the band confirmed the return of Frusciante last month.

Smith himself is currently focused on his exhibit at the Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery in Austin, a collection of more than 80 pieces created by Smith and SceneFour, a visual art team out of Los Angeles who has previously worked with Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead), Bill Ward (Black Sabbath) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer).
